April 24, 2008: Etowah Valley Quilt Guild welcomes Patty Knoechel (sister of Eleanor Burns "Quilt in a Day"), will be presenting a trunk show of Eleanor's newest book, "Victory Quilts". Hate it when your points don't match? East Cobb Quilt Guild has the solution for you: Visit with Jane Hall (foundation piecing QUEEN) this month. Jane is one of the premier foundation piecers in the country. She has lectured and taught quilt making for guilds and quilt conferences in the United States and abroad for twenty-five years. She is an author and quilt designer as well as a teacher, judge, and appraiser. 2 classes available: Firm Foundations (24th) and Pineapples Plus (26th). Jane's lecture will be on the 25th, "Blue Ribbon Quilts". Visit East Cobb's Website for more information. April 26, 2008: Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum presents a David Taylor Workshop: "Advanced Pictorial Appliqué": This class is for quilters who have mastered their own appliqué technique. David will demonstrate how to adapt a photograph or drawing into a quilted wallhanging, using hand- and machine-piecing, appliqué and quilting techniques. Students should not expect to have a finished piece at the end of the class. Detailed art quilts can take months to produce. Students are encouraged to bring multiple designs to choose from and may contact David in advance of the class to discuss their choices. A simple supply list is available. Maximum size of class: 20. On your own for lunch. May 5, 2008: Hall County Quilt Guild hosts Joan Sievenpiper trunk show of a "Samplemaker" and workshop of Lonestar quilt using "Quiltsmart" method. 9:30am, $3 visitor fee ($15 workshop fee). For more info, contact Joan Garland. May 19, 2008: Quilters In Stitches Quilt Guild hosts Peggy Barkle as she tells us about "Life of a Fabri-holic", $3 visitor fee. Meeting Information HERE. May 30, 2008: East Cobb Quilters Guild presents Laura Wasilowski. Laura is a textile artist, author, teacher, and creator of hand dyed fabrics and threads. She has an undergraduate degree in Costuming from the College of St. Benedict, St. Joseph, MN and a Master of Art degree in Fiber from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL. She is owner of ARTFABRIK. Laura combines vivid fabrics and whimsical stories to make pictorial art quilts. Her colorful, hand-dyed fabrics inspire her, as do stories of her family, friends, and home. These pieces often chronicle her life. Each wall piece she makes is of her own design, of fused appliqué, and machine quilted. Visit East Cobb's Website for more information. May 31, 2008: Quilters in Stitches of Grayson offers Stacy Michell's "Not So Giant Dahlia" from 10am-6pm. Everything has a trick, and this quilt is much easier than it looks! The colorful combination is created from Shades Hand Dyed Textiles, and the pieces are cut from acrylic templates From Marti Michell. This class makes a “Not So Giant Dahlia” that is a 36 inch circle. You will learn everything you need to know to make a Giant Dahlia with a 52 inch circle! We have found that Dahlia quilts are like potato chips, you can not make just one! Once you understand how easy it is, you will want to make a dozen! CLICK HERE for details on this workshop. June 2-3, 2008: Hall County Quilt Guild hosts Deb Karasik author, Quiltmavens Perfect Paper Piecing and award winner. Lecture; "If I can, anyone can" $3 visitor fee.
