In November of 1999 an exploratory committee was established by the Georgia Quilt Council to determine the feasibility of a quilt museum in Georgia. A year later, a report from the Executive Committee recommending against the project was made to the membership at the Fall Convention. However suggestions for fund raising were made from the floor and the Museum venture was revived. Since that day, donations for the Museum Fund have come from raffle quilts, Internet quilt auctions, silent quilt auctions and generous donations from members and friends. In 2002, at the Spring Convention, another report was made to the membership outlining the mission statement of the Museum Committee: To establish the Georgia Quilt Museum and exhibit the work of Georgia quilters, preserve their quilts, present educational programs and serve as a resource center for the study of the role of quilts and quilting in the culture of Georgia and in the USA. At this time, fund raising continues as various potential museum locations are evaluated.
