Webmistress |
| Our
Webmistress, Harriet Briscoe, earned her BS degree in mathematics education
from Georgia Southwestern College and State University in Americus, GA, in 1969 and her MS in
1972. She received further certifications in Gifted Education and
Education Leadership from the University of Georgia. Harriet worked as a mathematican at
Robins Air Force Base, a math teacher in Houston, Gwinnett and
Hall Counties and North Georgia College and State University and aa mathematics consultant at Pioneer Resa in Cleveland,
all within the State of Georgia.
Harriet's love of technology grew from her teaching career, where computer software and handheld calculators became an integral part of the instructional process. She worked with local schools to help veteran teachers become more comfortable with new technology and spoke at many state and national conferences on technology issues. Harriet retired from education in 2006 and transferred her techy skills to a different kind of technology...sewing machines. Today she enjoys working with embroidery patterns with Palett software and designing quilts using Electric Quilt. She tries to keep up with her 16 grandchildren and new great-grandson on Facebook, and maintains her church website, as well as this website. Her husband, Bob is a retired Air Force officer. Harriet Briscoe, like many of us, began sewing when she was in elementary school. Her first memory of sewing is on her grandmother's treadle machine which was later upgraded to an electric machine. She took her first sewing class from Sumter County Extension Agent, Boots Chappel in the summer of 1956. She feels that she has "sewn most of my life," but didn't become serious quilter, until about 2003. Harriet believes that those of us who have been blessed by grandparent, parents, friends, or teachers with a love of all things needle and thread have an obligation to future generations to keep that love alive. |
